Ezekiel Elliott has been with the Dallas Cowboys since 2016. The former Ohio State man had a fairytale rookie season. He was crowned the NFL’s top rusher with 1,631 yards. He repeated that feat in 2018. Despite being just 25, Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Elliott is also a three-time Pro Bowler. These individual accolades hint that Elliott has made quite an impact for the Cowboys over the last four years.

While that is true, critics will fairly point out that Zeke has a tendency to be inconsistent during certain spells of the season. Elliott and star quarterback Dak Prescott, along with Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup have been lethal in the league the last couple of years. But can new head coach Mike McCarthy help take their game to the next level in 2020?

Ezekiel Elliott leaves new coach Mike McCarthy impressed ahead of 2020 season

In a recent interaction with the press, Cowboys’ new head coach, Mike McCarthy spoke about star running back Ezekiel Elliott. “I can’t say enough about Zeke’s professionalism. He sits, you know, pretty much sits in the front row, has great questions, very intelligent football player and has a complete understanding of what we’re doing….He’s been seamless. He’s definitely part of the leadership group as I view it of our football team. So he’s off to a great start, he’s a true pro, I’ve been impressed,” McCarthy said.

“The guy I saw on film was the guy who had four-plus runs every time he touched the ball… There are no flaws as far as him as a runner. As you can see on the screen in some of the big plays that he did have, he still finishes runs, he finishes plays,” Coach McCarthy told the media via the team’s official handle.

As per Pro Football, Zeke rushed for 1,300+ yards and completed 12 TDs last season which is a decent return for a running back. But by his own standards, Elliott has fallen down the ladder over the last two years. His yards-per-game average has fallen from 108.7 (2016) to 84.8 (2019). Can Mike McCarthy help Zeke find his mojo again as we edge closer to the start of the 2020 season?
