“It healed right” – Kyle Shanahan Optimistic About Jerick McKinnon’s Injury Comeback

Jerick McKinnon arrived in San Francisco back in 2018. The highly-rated running back signed a four-year contract worth $30 million after ending his stay with Minnesota Vikings. However, things have not gone as per plan for the promising pass rusher.
McKinnon suffered an ACL tear in the 2018 offseason which ruled him out for the rest of the year. The next year, Jerick ‘Jet’ McKinnon was hit with another setback. The former Vikings man faced some complications after his knee surgery and was placed on the injured reserve on August 31, 2019. As a result, McKinnon is yet to make his debut for the 49ers despite spending two years on the team’s roster.
Fast forward to 2020, and McKinnon could get his long-awaited shot at playing for Kyle Shanahan’s offense. However, the question remains, can he stay fit this year?

“When he came back last year, trying to get him back and he’d try to work through it, you could tell it just didn’t heal right. He had to go through all that stuff again.
“It’s still the first day, the first step, but you can tell it healed right. And you can tell Jet’s put that work in, and you feel all that he’s gone through the past two years. I feel he’s finally in position where he has a chance to have that comeback now,” Kyle Shanahan said as per NBC Sports.

Prior to his move to the 49ers, McKinnon had carved himself quite a reputation while playing in Minnesota. He will be eager to prove his doubters wrong and repay the faith placed in him by the 49ers hierarchy this year. Shanahan’s team boasts an extremely lethal running-game.
