Ezekiel Elliott is having a poor season. The Dallas Cowboys‘ running back has been rather underwhelming so far this season. And unfortunately, there are many who question his place on the team right now.

But it appears that not everyone in the Cowboys organization is concerned. Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones spoke with Dallas Morning News about Elliott’s poor season. Jones emphasized that ‘Zeke’ will be back to his best soon.

He said, “I think he does, I think it’s just a matter of him getting in the right situations at the right time. Obviously, we went through a tough stretch there where we were figuring out our quarterback situation, figuring out our offensive line situation, and I think that made it more difficult.”

Jones said that Elliott will be off and running again before we know it. “But I do think Zeke still has it, and it’s only a matter of time before he’s going to reel off some big ones, as well.

“He’s been real close a couple of times, and I do think it’s just a matter of time before he puts up some big runs.”

Ezekiel Elliot on a downward trend

Elliott is averaging close to 4 yards per rushing attempt this season, the lowest in his career. Out of his 171 rushing attempts, he has only managed to cover a distance of 675 yards across 10 games.

That is a poor turnaround compared to last season, where he averaged close to 4.5 yards per attempt.

What’s more, Elliott’s numbers over the course of this season have been the lowest of his career. The 4th pick from the 2016 NFL Draft seems rather underwhelming right about now. The Dallas Cowboys’ dismal 3-7 record this season can be partly traced back to Elliot’s slump.

Zeke has managed only 5 touchdowns this season, in addition to 4 fumbles, inching closer to his career-high tally of 6 in a season. The fumble stat is rather disconcerting, especially given there are still 7 games left in the regular season to play.

Cowboys fans will be concerned about the sharp decline Elliott has displayed this year. Elliot is also averaging only 6.6 yards per reception, another career low for him. Compared to his career-high season in terms of receiving in 2017, Elliott has seen his output reduced.

Elliott will have the chance to turn his season around in the Cowboys’ next game against Washington Football Team. A decent outing against them could be all that Zeke needs in order to get a second wind this season.
