The Las Vegas Raiders could not have thought of a better way to inaugurate their brand new Allegiant Stadium than a win over NFC South big boys, New Orleans Saints.

The home team started the game as underdogs, despite an opening win against Carolina Panthers in Week One. However, Coach Jon Gruden’s boys pulled off a major 34-24 win against Drew Brees and Co. on Monday night. The Raiders had sixth-year quarterback Derek Carr to thank for last night’s win.

Here’s what Gruden told the press after the game in relation to Carr’s game-winning display at the Allegiant Stadium.

Are the Las Vegas Raiders this year’s surprise package in the NFL?

Quarterback Derek Carr was the standout performer in the Raiders’ win over the Saints on Monday night. The 29-year-old completed 28 of his 38 attempted passes and threw for 282 yards, in addition to posting three passing TDs to pull off a major win in Week Two.

“We’ve had I don’t know how many different combinations on the offensive line. Yet [Carr] threw for over 4,000 yards and 70 percent [completions last season], put us in a position to make the playoffs in Week 15.

“This guy’s a great quarterback. We’re surrounding him with better players. And once our defense, I think, starts playing to their potential, he can even be better.

“He does so much with the ball and without the ball and behind the scenes that I think Raiders fans should really be proud of him, and I know I am,” Gruden said at the post-game presser.

The Raiders are slated to go up against the New England Patriots at the Gillette Stadium next Sunday. The Patriots are on a 1-1 record after Sunday night’s loss to Seattle Seahawks.

Coach Bill Belichick and his star quarterback Cam Newton will be keen to find their way back to winning ways when these teams go toe to toe. However, after last night’s result, we suspect the Raiders will give them a tough time in Boston on the weekend.
