Los Angeles Rams had a mixed bag of results in the NFL last year. The LA-based franchise started the season with a dismal 3-0 record. However, they recovered in the latter half of the year and ended 2019 with an overall record of 9-7.

By contrast, Kyle Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers won the NFC Division and sealed their spot at the Super Bowl LIV in Miami. Agreed, they did suffer a crushing defeat courtesy of some Patrick Mahomes brilliance in the fourth quarter. But they did enough to convince the NFL fraternity that they are the team to beat heading into the 2020 season.

Los Angeles Rams coach, Sean McVay spoke highly of 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan in a recent interview on The Helliepod podcast with Dan Hellie.

Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay looking to replicate Kyle Shanahan’s running offense?

McVay was quick to laud Shanahan’s brilliant running back style of play which was quite evident last season.

“I think it’ll just naturally work itself out. I think if you look at that success San Fran had last year with that running back-by-committee approach. What I thought Kyle (Shanahan) and their players did a great job of is, ‘Hey, we’re going to have an open-mind approach, we’re going to be committed to trying to have some balance and then we’ll go with the hot hand or whoever really expresses himself as deserving of the carries,” McVay said.

Got three really good guys on our roster, asserts McVay

Sean McVay will certainly hope to build on last year’s performance heading into 2020. He singled out the likes of Darrell Henderson, John Kelly, and Malcolm Brown for special recognition.

“We feel good. We’ve got three guys really on our roster that have played football when you look at Darrell Henderson, John Kelly is another guy, Malcolm Brown has consistently produced really in that No. 2 role behind Todd.

“And then Cam Akers is a guy that we’re excited about. So we’ve got four backs that we feel are all NFL-legitimate real starting-caliber backs and not feeling like you’ve got to force carries or touches to any of them. Just open mind and see how these guys do,” McVay concluded.
