The Cowboys will now be one of the underdogs to challenge for a playoff spot this year, especially due to the presence of franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott grabbed headlines all throughout the offseason. He was involved in lengthy contract negotiations with Jerry Jones and his team but failed to settle on a deal. Dak will play the 2020 season on a $31.4 million franchise tag and will hope to impress in order to land a long-term deal with the Cowboys.

“I’ve really enjoyed his personality. He’s very upbeat, very driven. I’d say he’s kind of picked up where he left off based on what I’ve been told about him as far as he operates. Very detailed in his preparation. He’s a lot of fun to be around,” McCarthy told Dallas Morning News.

Dak has been with the Cowboys since 2016. He bagged the Pepsi Offensive Rookie of the year award at the start of his NFL career. Since then, he made the Pro Bowl team on two occasions. He threw for 4,902 yards last year and completed 30 TDs against 11 interceptions but failed to lead the Cowboys to the playoffs. In fact, in the last four years, the Dallas-based franchise made the divisional round just once in 2018.

I’ve been very impressed, says McCarthy

McCarthy, who previously coached Green Bay Packers in the past, further heaped praise on his starting quarterback while also talking about new addition Andy Dalton.

“I think Dak has done a great job with the time away and really the whole group, the quarterback group with the addition of Andy Dalton. The biggest adjustment for Dak is the language, which has been an adjustment for all of us. But he’s looked very good in the throwing segments of the strength and conditioning phase we’re in right now. I’m very pleased with where he is and very impressed,” McCarthy concluded.
