‘Lot of Room for Improvement’ – Bill Belichick Comments on Mac Jones After Saints Loss

Mac Jones arrived in New England as the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. This year’s draft boasted a long list of promising quarterbacks including the likes of Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance. The fact that the Patriots managed to get their man was an achievement in itself.

Jones led the Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team to the CFP National Championship title in his final college football season. He also managed to convince coach Bill Belichick that he is the right man for the New England Patriots starting quarterback role in Boston ahead of veteran, Cam Newton.

But three games into the season, Jones is still finding his feet in the big boy league along with his fellow class of 2021 rookies.

“I think Mac’s handled everything well see seeing a lot he’s seen pressure he’s seen max pressure, and max coverage. You know, we’ve been in all different types of formations, empty play actions, dropbacks, third downs. Unfortunately, we were in too many third and long’s yesterday.”

“And he’s seen a lot. And I think he dealt with all that pretty well. But, you know, like any young player, there’s a lot of room for improvement. And, you know, we need to improve just overall as a total football team, but certainly offensively,” Belichick told the press earlier this week.

In 3 games, Jones has thrown for 737 yards with 2 passing TDs against 3 interceptions. The former Alabama man has shown signs of promise but he is still an unfinished product.
