Chicago Bears once made the biggest mistake by choosing a quarterback who did not live up to the team’s expectations. Bears in the 2017 needed a quarterback who could start for their team. Out of the many potential names, such as Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, they trusted a quarterback who couldn’t take the Bears to the playoffs in many seasons.

Chicago Bears drafted rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky as an overall No. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL draft. They offered Trubisky a four-year, $29 million deal. Apart from Trubisky, Bears also had their eyes on the Chief’s star QB Patrick Mahomes.

According to a Bleacher Report article in 2020, Patrick Mahomes was amongst the Chicago Bears’ top 10 choices. The team had a close talk with Mahomes during the draft period. It also said that the Bears were not looking to acquire Deshaun Watson, and their first choices were Trubisky and Mahomes.

The article also mentioned that Ex-Chicago Bears GM might have created a distraction by spreading the news they were interested in Mahomes. Pace wanted Trubisky to be their leading quarterback and, in the NFL Draft, went forward to acquire him.

Patrick Mahomes is now a contender for next NFL GOAT

Pace wanted to be safe with Trubisky, but what he didn’t know was later on, Mahomes would become one of the leading NFL quarterbacks of his generation. Meanwhile, Trubisky had a rough time with the Bears, where he was benched many times in his 4-year career with the team. Mitchell Trubisky has an 87.2 passing rating in 51 games for the Bears, with 10,609 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 37 interceptions.

Trubisky was released in the year 2021. He then played for Buffalo Bills as a backup quarterback for Josh Allen. He used his first year to learn more from the legendary quarterback. This season he is poised to play as a starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers replacing Ben Roethlisberger, who retired this season.
