It’s been an almighty fall from grace for Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots. Cam Newton and Co. were given a harsh reality check in their 6-33 loss at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. This is the first time since 2004 that the Patriots have fallen to a 2-4 record in the NFL.

A large reason behind their failure to challenge ‘The Red and Gold’ was the poor display from star quarterback Cam Newton. In fact, his performance was so bad that he had to be taken off in the fourth quarter. Newton went for 9 of 15, throwing for less than 100 yards and three INTs.

It was a night to forget for Cam Newton and the rest of the New England Patriots’ players on Sunday. The look on the faces of home team players after the game was not a pleasant sight. Even head coach Bill Belichick seemed shaken by the loss, which was largely down to the epic failure of Cam Newton.

“I can’t speak for everybody, but just stick to the man in the mirror. I wasn’t good enough. In no way shape or form did I put this team in position to compete. That’s inexcusable. This is the National Football league. A lot is put on a quarterback. I have to deliver. I haven’t done that. Quite frankly, it’s evident. Moving forward, I know what the issue is,” Newton said after the game via Providence Journal.

Can’t allow myself to feel sorry says Patriots quarterback

Newton was definitely not done with his personal assessment from last night’s game. The Patriots’ first-choice QB is adamant that he knows what his flaws are and what he needs to do in order to improve his game.

“The decision making is inexcusable and I think that’s the most frustrating thing. once you pride yourself on certain things and you’re doing the things that you’re doing, it even makes matters worse. The point of emphasis all year has been protecting the football… When you don’t protect the football, that’s when you question a lot of things.”

Newton concluded, “I can’t allow myself to feel sorry for myself. I know what the issue is. You just have to attack it and get better. Me not playing good.”

The Patriots have a tough set of fixtures ahead of them in the coming weeks. The Boston-based franchise will play AFC East rivals Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens sandwiched between a game against the winless New York Jets.

Newton will have to find his ‘mojo’ sooner rather than later as the Patriots move farther away from making the playoffs. Will we see Cam Newton at the Gillette Stadium in 2021?
