The Philadelphia Eagles tied the franchise’s single-season record with their thirteenth win last week over the Chicago Bears. And running quarterback sensation Justin Fields met his match in Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts. Hurts called this matchup as well, as he has been doing this 2022 season from the very start.
Playing at an MVP level in only his third year in the league, 24-year-old Jalen Hurts is now drawing comparisons with another former young quarterback who won a Super Bowl in his third season. Yes, it’s former Seattle Seahawks and present-day Broncos QB Russell Wilson. DangerRuss took Seattle to its first ever Super Bowl, aided by the Legion of Boom Seahawks defense in 2014.

However, the Broncos’ current dismal state with their $245 million QB Wilson is in stark contrast with the Jalen Hurts led 13-1 Philadelphia Eagles. And when comparisons were made between Hurts and a young Russ, fans could not seem to get over Wilson’s current misfortunes.

Russell Wilson still has the Super Bowl upper hand. And Philly fans are not ready to accept the comparisons until Jalen Hurts wins them a second Super Bowl championship.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced that backup QB Gardner Minshew will be starting at the AT&T Stadium this week in the critical NFC East matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. This unfortunate news for the Philly fans came after Jalen Hurts injured his shoulder in the Bears game. Jalen’s lack of a passing TD against Chicago indicated that he was suffering with a shoulder problem. Hurts ran for three TDs along with his 315 passing yards. Hurts made himself available for the Dallas game in the pre-game presser, but the Eagles confirmed his unavailability.

The Philly defense can certainly hold up the fort even without their main quarterback. The Eagles’ defense ranks first in the league in sacks, opposition yards allowed per game, and interceptions. Hurts’ 25 touchdowns is 4th best in the NFL and his absence will surely hurt the Philly expectations. However, the franchise boasts of a strong dual threat system, and the onus will be on the Cowboys on Sunday.
