Patrick Mahomes Was Scouted By Kansas City Chiefs Literal Years Before He Was Drafted: “This Guy is Unbelievable… The Best I’ve Ever Seen”

The Kansas City Chiefs GM Brett Veach was among the first who believed in the quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his potential in the NFL. The revelation comes from Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid, who reminisces how Mahomes skyrocketed the franchise to relevancy. He credits current Chiefs, GM Veach, with discovering how Mahomes was the perfect fit for their QB situation.
Andy Reid was openly discussing how they went all-in on Mahomes during the NFL Combine, and it was Veach’s recommendation to then-GM John Dorsey.

While talking about his visit to see Mahomes play, Reid states, “He was down on the field before one of the games scouting him at Texas Tech and he goes, ‘You’re not going to believe this quarterback. This guy is unbelievable, like the best I’ve ever seen.’”
While Reid and Dorsey were maintaining their reservations, Veach’s experience and scouting report was too good to ignore.

The Chiefs’ head coach also reveals they were scouting Mahomes nearly two years before he became eligible for the NFL Draft. They eventually traded two first-round picks and one third-round pick to draft him with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Mahomes also ended up reciprocating the faith of his future GM by proving his quality after entering the NFL. He has since led the franchise to a Super Bowl title by winning Super LIV and being named the Super Bowl MVP. He has become the face of their franchise, and their roster is built to amplify his impact.

The former league MVP has been arguably one of the top QBs in the NFL and is a pure competitor on the football field. While he faced disappointment in 2021 with a defeat in the AFC Championship Game, he was delivering the goods offensively.

Last season, Mahomes ended up recording 4,839 passing yards resulting in 37 TDs and 13 INTs.
The Chiefs Nation will hope that Mahomes will bounce back with a greater drive and desire to return to the Super Bowl stage in 2022. He will again be a vital figure in their new offensive line and hope to remind fans of his greatness.
