NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert seems to be on course to make a full recovery from his knee cartilage injury in 2021. The soon-to-be free agent player did undergo tests this week with Dr. Dan Cooper in Dallas, who suggests that Mostert is nearing full fitness. Initially, the franchise was confident he will be back after missing 8 weeks, but his decision to have surgery ruled him out of the 2021 season.

Even the player’s agent, Brett Tessler, was optimistic about Mostert’s recovery while stating that even Dr. Cooper was surprised by his client’s speedy recovery. It will be a piece of welcome news for franchisees who will be in the market searching for a running back.

The upcoming week will be crucial for the Niners RB as he will become an unrestricted free agent as he enters his 8th NFL season in 2022.

Mostert signed with the Niners during the 2016 season, and his 5-year stint was quite productive. He ended up recording 1,610 rushing yards, 361 receiving yards for 11 rushing TDs, and 3 receiving TDs in 46 games. Injuries are damaging to every player’s progression, but it seems like Mostert is raring to go and prove his worth in 2022.

Is Raheem Mostert staying on in San Francisco?

The injury did alter Mostert’s plan, as he was their starting running back option. Injuries have been a part of his career with the franchise as he spent much of 2020 on and off injured reserve. While playing in just 8 games, he ended up rushing for 521 yards and two TDs on 104 carries. He also recorded 16 receptions for 156 yards and a receiving TD.

According to PFF, he will be one of the most underrated players among the free-agent running backs. He will have options with the Miami Dolphins, who will be keeping a close eye having appointed former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. But if the Niners would want to retain the player, they would have to match the right price for his services.
