REPORT: Pittsburgh Steelers Ended Terms With QB Ben Roethlisberger in “Bad Blood”

Ben Roethlisberger had one of the most storied careers in the NFL. In 18 years, he became synonymous with the Pittsburgh Steelers Franchise. He embodied their spirit of grit and valor perfectly. Everyone thought that a likely Hall of Fame career ended on a good note. However, the recent revelation by the Steelers insider Gerry Dulac hints at a possible animosity between the franchise and Big Ben.
The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted the 40-year-old QB in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft. After having a good 2020 season and a mediocre 2021 season, Roethlisberger chose to move on.

Did Ben Roethlisberger have to face a Troy Polamalu situation?
While talking on a Q&A segment on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s website, Steelers insider Gerry Dulac was asked a serious question regarding Ben’s retirement. “Is there bad blood between the Steelers and Big Ben with how his career ended? Was he ready to retire, or was it a Troy [Polamalu] type situation where he was forced into it?”

Dulac didn’t have a clear answer; however, he had a surprising response on the matter. “I would say it’s very very safe to assume that.” Dulac replied. It took no time for the comment to catch the attention of fans. Even though Dulac could have ignited the bonfire, he didn’t take his chances.

However, it seems there could have been a possible Polamalu situation that might have forced him to retire. It was indeed a very dramatic scene per the insider. The safety, Troy Polamalu, had two options: either retire or else the franchise would release him. Ultimately, Polamalu made his choice to retire and distanced himself from the organization.

“Multiple sources have confirmed Polamalu wanted no parts; he declined the invitation and has, make no mistake, distanced himself from the organization from which he was tied so deeply and retired from in April,” CBS Sports’ Colin Dunlap said about the situation in 2015.

For the first time after announcing retirement from the pro-football league, Roethlisberger did his first public interview on WDVE 102.5 last week. When he was asked a similar question about whether he would be pulling a Tom Brady and coming out of retirement, Ben clarified his intentions without a second thought.
“Well, I tell you what, first off, my coach and general manager don’t want me back,” Roethlisberger said. “Second of all, I’m pretty confident with where I’m at. Being a bus driver making lunches in the morning, that’s a pretty good job,” he added to his comments.

The former Super Bowl Champion ended his stint with a 42–21 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC wild-card round of the playoffs. It will be interesting to see how things will go for the Steelers without having Big Ben on the roster.
