On February 2nd, the Washington Football Team will officially reveal their new name. In light of this new name, there has been a lot of hype, and just how the future of the franchise might change if they choose to go with it. Nonetheless, some sleuths on the web might have figured out the new name a bit sooner than expected.

According to Sporting News, a user named Larry Legend, a domain name Commanders.com has been transferred to the NFL’s portfolio management domain. The NFL uses MarkMonitor as a registrar for naming its teams and brands. MarkMonitor does not manage domains for the six NFL teams including the Patriots, Cowboys, Ravens, Raiders, Texans, and Washington Football Team. The Washington Team uses the GoDaddy domain, while the five other teams use Network Solutions.

The franchise continued to operate with the same name until 2019 when they were forced to give it up. Indigenous Americans in the United States consider the term ‘Redskins’ a derogatory term. As a consequence, the team in 2020 adopted the temporary name Washington Football Team. The team will be adopting a permanent name next week on February 2nd.
