Ron Rivera Shows His Class After Allowing First Round Draft Pick to Skip Training Camp to Attend His Penn State Graduation

Ron Rivera became the head coach of the Washington Commanders in 2020. Prior to being the head coach of the Commanders, he was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers.
So far in the two seasons in Washington, Rivera has had a record of 14-19. He hasn’t been able to achieve success with the team yet, but they are moving in the right direction.

The Commanders had a decent draft and are looking ready for the next season. Notably, they have a new quarterback at their disposal in Carson Wentz. The quality and experience of Wentz will be helpful to the Washington Commanders team in the next season.

One of their major draft acquisitions was Jahan Dotson, the WR from Penn State. They picked him with the 16th overall pick. Dotson is supposed to be graduated from his university on the 7th of May, but he was in the minicamp and was looking to skip his graduation. However, his head coach Ron Rivera had other ideas.

Jahan Dotson was all set to miss his graduation, but his head coach Ron Rivera urged him to miss the practice and attend the graduation. This will be a big moment for the former Penn State WR and his family.
Talking about his graduation, Jahan said, “Many people in my family haven’t achieved this goal, So it’s pretty big for me and my family to be able to achieve this goal of graduating the college, So it’s gonna be a really cool moment…”

Commanders first round WR Jahan Dotson is set to graduate from Penn State tomorrow – a huge moment for him and his family. But with Washington in rookie minicamp, he was planning on skipping graduation.

He added, “I was actually ready to skip the graduation and be out here practice, but he said that it’s like a once in a million type of thing.” referring to his head coach Ron Rivera.
Jahan further said, “He was all for me gone, So I honestly hadn’t even thought about skipping the practice until he kinda brought that up.” Rivera certainly wanted his rookie WR to live one of the best moments of his life with his family.

The culture in Washington is perfectly set for a good run for the franchise. With Carson Wentz ready to lead the team in the upcoming season, the fans are excited to watch their team play. However, making the playoffs out of the NFC East will be a tough task for them.
