Is Tom Brady’s Biggest Rival-Turned-Teammate Richard Sherman Retiring?

Richard Sherman has always enjoyed the spotlight as an NFL player. As part of Seattle’s legendary Legion of Boom, Sherman has had his share of success in the league, winning the Super Bowl in 2013. The current free agent CB, has never shied away from making his opinions known.

It is this latter quality that Sherman needs to build on now as he moves toward the next stage of his professional career. Sherman has chosen to move on from the game of football for the foreseeable future, after an injury ridden 2021 season. He has landed a role as an analyst in a major NFL program.

Is Richard Sherman retiring?

Sherman has joined Thursday Night Football, which will now be hosted on Amazon Prime Video. The show has presently moved to the streaming service and has added the CB as an analyst from the 2022 season. However, he clarified his move was not a complete move from the NFL and he was not hanging up his boots at the moment.

Speaking to the NFL Network, Sherman said, “No, no, I’m still leaving that door open as long as I can. I’m obviously going to keep training and staying in shape, but gotta take the opportunities when they’re there, and this is an amazing opportunity with Amazon, so I couldn’t pass it up.”

He mentioned he would immediately make a move back to the football field should someone come calling for him. Sherman’s move to football analysis is one of quite a few this year, including Tom Brady’s Fox deal.

Fans widely regard Brady to be the GOAT in NFL and he is supposed to move to Fox as an analyst after the end of the 2022 season. Sherman is one of the few players in the NFL who has played both against and with Brady. As part of the Seahawks and the 49ers, the CB has been part of defenses that have tried to block the 7-time Super Bowl champion from playing effectively.

They have had their share of disagreements but have also been sporting after games, such as Sherman coming to shake Brady’s hand after the Super Bowl. In the 2021 season, Sherman joined the Buccaneers led by Brady. However, his season was drastically cut short by injury.

Sherman’s addition to the Thursday Night Football team could be valuable for the show. The star would bring not just an understanding of the game but also an ability to speak and give opinions that few can match in the NFL.
