Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen recently lost his grandmother. This placed Allen in a very tough spot. On one side he had his emotions, on the other he had his responsibility as a quarterback.

He could either mourn the loss he suffered or he could go out there on the field with his team and fight the Seahawks.

Head Coach Sean McDermott advised Allen to skip the game on Sunday. McDermott asked him to take time and mourn the loss he had suffered and told him that the choice was his and if he did not want to play, he could skip the game.

Allen did not want to let the pain hold him back from standing against the Seahawks. His grandmother wouldn’t want him to skip the game at any cost; therefore, in a bid to honor her, he stepped on the field.

“All I kept telling myself was she would’ve wanted me to play,” said Allen in an interview on Wednesday. Bills’ Coach had already revealed the news of 80-year-old Patricia Allen’s demise after a 44-34 win against the Seahawks.

“And she would want me to play how I usually play, with the fun that I have out there, and with the sense of pride I have when I put on that uniform,” said Allen.

Allen had these moments where he would just look up to the sky, pointing his finger. He did this in remembrance of his grandmother who never missed his match, be it live in the stadium or in front of a television set. She attended all his games right fro his High School games through to his outings in the NFL.

His parents did not want to inform him about the death. They feared it would affect his performance in the game on Sunday. “But to go out there and play for her, to do it in her honor, while my family was all together watching, I don’t think it could’ve been a better tribute,” said Allen.

Josh Allen did not just play the game, he won the AFC’s Offensive Player of the week award with 415 passing yards. He made sure that he brought his best game forward. This win over Seahawks was a tribute to his grandmother.

On being asked, if he was pointing upwards towards the sky now and then was his belief that his grandmother was watching, to which he humbly replied, “She wasn’t only watching, she was on the field with me.”
