Cam Newton’s arrival in New England has been met with mixed reviews from critics and supporters alike. The talented quarterback was without a team since 2019. His contract with Carolina Panthers ended last year and he’s been a free agent ever since. New England Patriots took a calculated risk by bringing in Cam Newton. The experienced QB will provide competition to the young Jarett  Stidham for a place in the Patriots starting lineup when the 2020 NFL season starts. The former Carolina Panthers man will be crucial to any potential title charge but the Patriots this season as they gear up for life after Tom Brady. There is no doubt that Newton is leaving no stone unturned ahead of his NFL return.

A quick glance at Cam Newton’s social media handle will reveal how much effort the player is putting into his daily workout regime. It seems like Cam Newton has a point to prove. At 31, there is no doubt that Newton is entering the twilight of his career. Since making his NFL debut in 2011, Cam Newton was regarded as one of the top quarterbacks of the last decade. But his constant struggle with injuries caused him a lot of problems during his time with the Panthers. Shoulder and foot injuries in the final few years of his Panthers contract tarnished his reputation as one of the top QBs in the NFL. This could be one of the reasons behind his renewed determination and subsequent acquisition by the New England Patriots.

Despite all this, there have been certain critics who have questioned Newton’s below-par contract with the Patriots. The Auburn graduate is currently on a $1 million contract. But if reports are to be trusted then more than half of that sum is tied up in bonuses. Despite all this negative energy, Cam Newton maintains that it is not about money for him. Respect is more important for the veteran QB and he looks determined to prove a point to his doubters. There is no doubt about his ability but can he settle into the Patriots setup before the season starts? Only time will tell. The question remains ‘Can Cam Newton have “one last hurrah” before he finally bows out?’
