Undrafted free-agent Juwan Johnson was signed by NFC South franchise New Orleans Saints in the 2020 offseason. He was part of the Saints practice squad for the majority of the season.

However, a long-term injury to seasoned NFL receiver Michael Thomas and the exclusion of teammate Emmanuel Sanders (tested positive for COVID-19) forced the hand of Sean Payton. The Saints promoted Juwan Johnson to their active roster on October 24, 2020.

He made his highly awaited NFL debut on the weekend against the Carolina Panthers. Johnson played 19 snaps total, including 13 on offense. But the 6-foot-4 wide receiver made headlines for different reasons.

Will Michael Thomas depart the Saints before trade deadline day?

“Here’s the situation: even when he had a hamstring injury, people looked at it a little bit sideways. The truth is, the Saints [performed an MRI], and it did come back with a Grade 1 strain of that hamstring.

Which means it’s like a one- or two-week injury. I do think there is still room for Mike Thomas and Sean Payton to get back on the same page here.

“His contract is probably too much to trade. There aren’t too many teams that can take on that contract. I think the best bet right now is for those two guys to get back on the same page,” Glazer said via USA Today.
