The 8-season veteran said, “We cannot continue to ignore racism as though it has ended or never happened. The continual violence inflicted upon blacks and people of color. We need a change now we need love, we need compassion. We need grace and forgiveness even in the midst of the pain.”

Earlier this month, in a chat with the media as per Seahawks.com, the Super Bowl XLVIII winner reacted to the alleged murder of George Floyd. He indicated that he feared his family as well as his unborn child. The Seahawks quarterback termed it a reality, which unfortunately is one endured by the black race. In addition to this, he said, watching these things happen is staggering.

With regard to his family, he ended the media interaction saying, “My ultimate prayer is for my newborn son that comes in the world is to be able to live in a world that’s not like this.”

His latest comments are a clear sign that he is pushing for change now. The 31-year-old even highlighted his own brush with racism a few days after helping his side to Super Bowl glory. He stated that it exists all over and isn’t restricted to certain parts of the country.
Wilson isn’t the only voice to call for change. There have been multiple NFL stars who condemned the incident. An NFL players video by black players including Odell Beckham Jr and Patrick Mahomes prompted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to condemn the systemic racism. He also announced a massive donation under the league’s Inspire Change initiative.

Furthermore, multiple teams and players including Wilson released statements and participated in the blackout movement on social media. It is a clear indication of where they stand, which makes the start of the 2020 NFL season very interesting as “change is now.”
