The United States Tennis Asociation is confident about holding the US Open 2020 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The organizers are trying to find every alternative to organize the big-ticket event on the scheduled date. However, many tennis players are still in doubt to travel to the States. Nick Kyrgios also raised questions on whether the US Open should be held.

Earlier, Novak Djokovic revealed that many tennis players are not keen to travel to the USA. The Serb feels the restrictions imposed for the US Open 2020 might be extreme and unsustainable for the players.

Defending champion Rafael Nadal was also unsure whether he would travel to New York. However, he suggested that if the situation improves in a couple of months, he might compete in the event. But, the Spaniard is also confident that the USTA will take the right decision and make sure the tournament is held in safe circumstances.

Nick Kyrgios asks Big Three’s opinion

Roger Federer also ended his 2020 season to undergo another knee surgery and will return next year. Hence, there is a possibility of the absence of the ‘Big 3’ at the US Open 2020 if the situation continues to remain the same. Consequently, Kyrgios asked the ‘Big 3’ about their opinions on the US Open.

Kyrgios also called the ATP ‘selfish’ for not stopping the organizers to hold the US Open with all the issues going on in the country.

“The ATP is trying to make the US Open go ahead. Selfish with everything going on at the moment. Obviously COVID, but also with the riots, together we need to overcome these challenges before tennis returns in my opinion,” he added.

According to reports, the ATP also held a virtual meeting with around 400 players on 10th June to discuss the resumption of the remaining season and what the calendar may look like. In addition, the top authorities also discussed the US Open and the final decision will come after five days.
