Nick Kyrgios Ends his 2018 Season Early
Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Kremlin Cup. The Australian was supposed to face Mirza Bašić, after overcoming the challenge of Andrey Rublev in three sets earlier yesterday. Kyrgios took to twitter to suggest that he will not be playing anymore in 2018. Kyrgios has cited elbow related issues as the reason for his early end to the season.
“It’s very unfortunate dealing with an ongoing elbow injury dealt with at the start of the season”, said Nick Kyrgios. “It kept me out for a month or two. It started to bother me a
little bit this week so I’m going to wrap up my season, head home and start the recovery. See you all in 2019″, added the Australian young gun.

After Kyrgios’s withdrawal, it will be a free path for Mirza Bašić, who will face Karen Khachanov in his quarter-finals match at the Kremlin Cup in Moscow. Meanwhile the second seed, Daniil Medvedev breezed through his first round, in front of the home support. He beat Dusan Lajovic in straight sets, (6-2 6-1) in 53 minutes racking up his 38th win of the 2018 season. He will meet Ricardas Berankis in the last eight of the tournament.
In the WTA section, Vera Zvonareva was defeated after she took the first set against Sevastova 4-6, 7-5, 6-3. Daria Kasatkina also battled past Alize Cornet from France. Another example of how on court coaching, helped change the course of the match, was seen in Kasatkina’s match as her coach gives her a crucial piece of advice. Watch the entire conversation below. Earlier today Kastkina overcame Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova as well, in straight sets 6-4,6-3.

In the other half the Brit Johanna Konta, prevailed over A. Sasnovich, in a tight match that went to a tie-breaker in the deciding set. Ons Jabeur, a qualifier took the headlines however, when she defeated the eighth seed Anett Kontaveit in straight sets.
