Nick Kyrgios recently had a shoulder issue which forced him to take time off to recuperate. He missed the New York Open which started on February 10. But the Aussie is ready to make his first appearance since the first Major.

A very good showing at the 2020 Australian Open saw Kyrgios reach the fourth round where Rafael Nadal downed him. However, what stood out in Nick’s performances was a change in attitude and demeanor.

Nick Kyrgios returns

Nick was fighting and competing much more solemnly than ever before. He was quite respectful towards Rafa as well, despite a history of bad blood between the pair. His usual antics on court were minimal, and played with concentration we never saw before in his game.

The bushfire crisis Don Under seemed to have shaken him and changed his perspective a bit. Whatever it may have been, it was a treat for the fans. He played some quality tennis throughout January. Unfortunately, his shoulder injury forced him to take a break and miss New York Open.

Kyrgios expressed his disappointment over missing out to the fans.

“Hey New York Open fans, really disappointed I can’t make it this year. I was really looking forward to playing on the black courts at NYCB Live. My shoulder has flared up and I am not able to play. I hope everyone still goes out to see the great tennis at the New York Open.”

As we now approach the ATP 250 event Delray Beach Open in Florida, we will finally get to see Nick Kyrgios back in action. He played at the event last year too, and even beat fellow Aussie player John Millman in the opening round. He lost in the next round to Radu Albot, who went on to win the title.

Kyrgios will be joining some big names like compatriot John Millman, World No. 32 Milos Raonic, American Taylor Fritz and Reilly Opelka  at the 250 tournament.

In the doubles section, Bob and Mike Bryan will also play in the Delray Beach event. The legendary doubles partners and twin brothers are playing their final season on Tour. The duo will retire at this year’s US Open.
