Nico Hulkenberg Worried About Not Racing at all in 2020

One of the biggest mysteries of the 2019 season is what will be the fate of Nico Hulkenberg? The German driver mentioned in Suzuka that he may have to play the patience card.

Poor old Nico Hulkenberg was out of favour at Renault for the 2020 season, losing it to Esteban Ocon. The French driver penned a two-year deal with the outfit and will partner Daniel Ricciardo.

For Hulkenberg, his 2020 options are reducing very quickly, with the only viable one’s being Alfa Romeo and Williams. He was linked to Red Bull, before they reaffirmed their priorities on a more local level, namely their current 4 drivers. Another realistic option was Haas F1, however, he proved to be too ‘expensive’ and they retained their current line-up.

Speaking in the press conference, Nico Hulkenberg stated that his future is still uncertain. He admitted, “There is no news. We have to play the game with patience, so I have to wait a little longer.”

The 32-year old also realised that there is a possibility that he may not race at all in 2020. However, he firmly believes that his Formula One story is not over just yet and he will return.

He concluded, “That scenario is there, but to be honest, I have not really thought of scenarios when I am not driving in Formula 1. For me personally I would take some time to get clear what I want and where I want to find a new challenge Of course I will take a seat in some race car in the future, because I like that. It is my passion. Only time will tell what will happen.”

Now, the Hulk’s main job is to finish off the rest of the 2019 Formula 1 season on a high note. Hopefully, he can turn in decent performances which could garner the attention of Alfa Romeo or Williams.
