Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal Won’t Give ‘a Free Grand Slam’ to Each Other, Says Former World No.11

With Roger Federer not participating at the US Open, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are the front runners for the Grand Slam. But they are still having their doubts over participation and so this year we could finally see a new Grand Slam champion. Former World No.11 Sam Querrey has also given his impressions about this situation and what it could mean to the other players.

Querrey was open about his thoughts. He expressed that he would love to win his first major. The ‘Big 3’ not participating would open up the draw for the rest of the players. He admires the Big 3 and says that they have been great for tennis.

“It does open up the draw for someone else to win it. I would love to win it. But tennis has been great because of Roger, Rafa, Novak for 15 straight years. I think dominance by one person or a small group of people in any one sport is really good for that sport.” said the American

Querrey said that it’s important to bring back tennis with the US Open even though the big players might not play. He also believes that both Nadal and Djokovic won’t give each other ‘a free slam’. If one participates the other one will follow him and participate too.

“If we don’t have that for one U.S. Open, it’s not going to make or break anything. It’s more important for the game of tennis that we play the U.S. Open and get it back going than it is for those two guys to play the event, ” he said in an interview with Forbes.

“They’re going neck-and-neck for the history books and they don’t want to give the other one a free Grand Slam,” he added.

Sam Querrey is currently playing in the All American Team Cup in Georgia, USA. It features the top eight American Players split into two teams and competing against each other. The tournament is one of the first to allow spectators in the US.

But the tournament could run into trouble after Frances Tiafoe tested positive for the coronavirus. Tiafoe tested negative when he was in Florida last week. But the young American came to Georgia to participate in the All American Team Cup and played against Querrey a few days back. Tiafoe got tested positive on Friday after his match against Querrey.
