The World No.1 flew off to perfect start breaking Shapovalov in his opening service game and cruising to a 3-0 lead. Djokovic blasted all his cylinders to serve out the set 6-3 in just 30 minutes.

Novak Djokovic did not face a single breakpoint in his five service games of the first set, losing only 4 points his serve. Playing his first ATP Tour Masters 1000 finals, the Canadian next-generation star could manage to win only 3 out of the 20 points while returning Djokovic’s 1st serve.

Set two

Denis Shapovalov was back on track in the second set after saving a breakpoint in his opening service game before holding three crucial serve games. However, the 20-year-old still couldn’t trouble the 16-time Grand Slam champion on hi serve as the set was tied up at 3-3.

Novak Djokovic then changed gears in the next game as he broke Shapovalov quite easily as the next-generation star lost concentration. Shapovalov earned his first opportunity to break Djokovic for the first time in the match and get a re-break in the next game but he made a tentative error to squander the chance to get back in the match.

The World No.1 then made no mistakes while serving for the match as he sealed the set 6-4 in just 35 minutes and claimed the 5th title of the 2019 season – most by any player on the ATP Tour, tieing with Dominic Thiem.
