Novak Djokovic Details Meeting With ATP Chief About the New Players’ Association

Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil shocked the tennis world with their proposal during the US Open. They wanted to form a Professional Tennis Players Association or the PTPA to protect the interests of the players. Now, in a recent statement (courtesy of Reuters), the Serb revealed that he had a conversation with the ATP Chairman regarding this. He said,
“I did meet Andrea. We had a player meeting and he did a presentation for us. It was about two days ago. We stayed for about two and a half hours and I stayed all the way through. I had a chat with him as well privately.”
The Serb did not reveal any specific details of the conversation. However, he indicated that the discussion had a positive outcome. In the same statement, he said,

“We never said we want to boycott or separate ourselves from the ATP or anything like that. We want to work together in this ecosystem with ATP and everyone else. The Players Association is going forward, it’s very important for us to have a 100% player representation.”

Every new idea is bound to face resistance. Unfortunately for Novak, his proposal is being opposed by none other than his Big 3 counterpart Rafael Nadal. The latter feels that in times like these; the world needs unity and not division. However, the Serb revealed that he wants to talk with Rafa and clarify his stance. He said,
“Maybe there will be time for that next week before Roland Garros when we don’t have matches for maybe three-four days and maybe that will be a chance to do it.”
