The ‘Resurged King’ of tennis, Novak Djokovic is through to the fourth round of the Australian Open 2019 and will be playing the 15th seeded Russian, Daniil Medvedev. So far the Serb has just dropped a set in the tournament, in his previous match against the Canadian, Denis Shapovalov. And in the following set, he steamrolled the Canadian with a bagel and closed out the match 6-3 6-4 4-6 6-0. “Other than the little letdown that I had in the third set … I thought I played well, especially in the fourth set,” Djokovic addressed the press. “I expected Denis to come out and be aggressive. I just stayed solid from the back of the court and served well, played the right shots.”

The crowd at the Rod Laver Arena cheered for Djokovic as he stretches his match winning streak to 17 against the left-handed tennis players in the major tournaments, ever since he lost to Rafael Nadal at the 2014 French Open final. Apart from his on-court eminence, the Serbian maestro will continue his dwelling on the apex position of tennis irrespective of the results in the Australian Open 2019. Djokovic will continue to be the Number One tennis player even after the new rankings are released on January 28.

The 2018 tennis season was kind to Serbian and most importantly he recovered from his prolonged elbow injury, which compelled him to call off his 2017 season. Also, Djokovic completed the career Golden Masters in Cincinnati in 2018, i.e., to accomplish all nine ATP Masters 1000 events at least once in his tennis career. On top of that, he picked up two Slams and reached the finals at the ATP World Tour Finals. He retrieved his Number One at the Paris Masters as Rafa decided to pull out from the tournament due to an abdominal injury and since then continued to maintain that ranking. Also, he concluded his 2018 season as the Number One tennis player for the fifth time in his career.

Up next, Djokovic gears up for his match against Medvedev, and hopefully keeps his winning percentage against him as hundred and reserves the quarterfinal berth in the Australian Open 2019.
