Yesterday, Mercedes‘ driver Lewis Hamilton went past Michael Schumacher’s long-standing record of most race victories in F1. Having equaled the record last time out in the Eifel Grand Prix, Hamilton went past the record after a dominant race at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The British driver received praise from various other sports icons and one of them was the World No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic took to Instagram to congratulate the six-time world champion. The Serbian posted a story applauding Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton’s 2020 F1 Season

2020 has been another rock-solid season for Lewis Hamilton. With eight race wins, Hamilton leads the championship by 77 points from his teammate Valtteri Bottas. With the race victories record surpassed, Hamilton is looking towards equaling Michael Schumacher’s record of most world championships won in F1. Currently, Hamilton has six championships and needs one more to be level with Michael Schumacher’s tally of seven.

Djokovic and Hamilton are good friends. Especially when both the sportspersons highly promote their vegan lifestyle. In 2018, both Lewis Hamilton and Novak Djokovic featured in a Netflix documentary called ‘The Game Changers.’ The documentary showed the benefits of a plant-based diet and the pros of going vegan.

Novak Djokovic in 2020

For Djokovic, the 2020 season has been spectacular. Some of his biggest tournament victories include the Australian Open and two ATP Masters 1000 titles. Ever since his Australian Open triumph, Djokovic has consolidated his position at the World No.1 spot in the ATP rankings and is eyeing a few records.

It is a known fact that Djokovic is heavily chasing the record of the number of weeks at World No.1. A record currently held by Roger Federer with 310 weeks, Djokovic is in his 292nd week, and in a few more months, Djokovic will take the record.

Also, another record that Djokovic could equal is having the most year-end World No.1 rankings. Currently, Djokovic is level with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal with five and is one behind Pete Sampras’ record of six.

The Serbian has already played his move towards achieving the above records. Djokovic won’t be playing the Paris Masters as there is no scope of earning points there for the Serbian. Instead, he will play in Vienna, where he will add points and be well clear of second-placed Rafa Nadal.
