World No.2 Novak Djokovic reveals that he felt a ‘sharp pain’ in his elbow during his straight-sets defeat against Roger Federer in their final round-robin match of the Bjorn Borg group at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 on Thursday.

After dropping the opening set 4-6, Novak Djokovic held his elbow in pain as he was seen stretching and rubbing his elbow at the start of the second set but continued playing as he refused to blame the pain for his defeat at the 2019 ATP Finals.

Talking about the pain in his elbow in the post-match press conference, Djokovic said: “I hope it’s nothing that will really unable me to play Madrid. You know, the pain was pretty sharp.”

He further added: “But I could play the rest of the match, so, you know, if I had something really serious, I think I wouldn’t be able to hold the racquet. So it was probably just an awkward, quick movement that I did. It did not pose any form of issues later on.”

Earlier, the Serbian had pulled out of his fourth-round match against Stan Wawrinka after suffering from a shoulder injury at the US Open 2019 in September. However, the Serb had recovered from the injury to win the Tokyo Open title and the Rolex Paris Masters before arriving at the year-end event in London.

With this victory, the six-time champion Roger Federer knocked the defending runner-up out of the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 to book a place in the semifinals in London. Novak Djokovic also loses his chance to finish as year-end No.1 in the ATP rankings with Rafael Nadal confirming his spot at the top.
