Serb superstar Novak Djokovic has sent a special message out to his fans on reaching his latest career landmark – crossing 311 straight weeks as the World Number 1.

The previous record of 310 weeks was held by his peer and rival Roger Federer.

Sporting a white Polo shirt, with the moniker ‘311’ in glittering gold tailored into it, Djokovic thanked his fans for supporting him through his crushing lows and dizzying heights.

The shirt has been specially designed by his apparel sponsor Lacoste to mark his latest milestone.

Djokovic lifted an unprecedented ninth Australian Open title this year, taking his career tally of Grand Slam trophies to 18 and drawing him ever closer to Federer and Rafael Nadal‘s haul of 20 apiece.

Expressing gratitude to his fans for their “continuous support,” the Serb said he was “proud” to wear the shirt that “realizes the special milestone that was recently achieved.”

He said that his success is as much down to the love and support of his fans as his hard work and such milestones serve to motivate him to keep winning titles and bringing them more joy.

“This is your (fans’) success as much as it’s mine,” Djokovic said.

He also thanked his apparel sponsor, saying he was “proud to be a part of the Lacoste family.”

Also, in a hint that he has recovered from the abdominal muscle tear that he suffered midway through his Australian Open campaign, the Serb said he was hoping to see his fans “on Tour” very soon.

The World Number 1 sustained the injury during his nerve-wracking third-round win over American Taylor Fritz.

Even as questions swirled around his future participation in the tournament, Djokovic resolved to soldier on despite obvious physical pain.
