Novak Djokovic slipped to world no.12 earlier this week. This is the first time he has dropped out of the top ten in the world since the year of 2008. The Serb is recovering from an elbow injury that has forced him out of the latter half of the 2017 season. Djokovic piled up dismal performances throughout the year, failing to make an impact in the big tournaments. Dennis Istomin knocked Djokovic out of the Australian open in the very first round. The hard-hitting Tomas Berdych beat him in the Wimbledon semis. Djokovic has not featured in a match since.

However Djokovic is set to return in the next month’s tournament in Abu Dhabi. The Mubadala World Tennis Championships will take place in the month of December starting on the 28. The Mubadala World Tennis Championships boasts a strong lineup with big names on the card.  World number one Rafael Nadal and NextGen star Dominic Thiem will headline the event. Stanislas Wawrinka will also be joining them, after a long recovery break from his injury woes. Other big names at Abu Dhabi include Milos Raonic and world number 11 Pablo Carreno Busta.

“I am extremely excited to return to Abu Dhabi for the fifth time and take part in the 10th Edition of the Championship. It is a huge honour to take part in such a special tournament” said Djokovic. He also added, “The line-up is very strong as always and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season. Abu Dhabi is an amazing place and this is going to be a great event for all of the fans.”

The Australian open circuit begins in the month of January, and this will be the perfect tournament for Djokovic, and Andre Agassi to test the former’s body. However, whether or not he returns to his old ways will be an interesting debate.
