Novak Djokovic Wins Record Title at Mubadala WTC

The world number one Novak Djokovic, won an enthralling match against the South African Kevin Anderson, to capture his fourth title here in Abu Dhabi, at the Mubadala WTC. Last year’s champion, Kevin Anderson did not go down without a fight in an enthralling 4-6 7-5 7-5 affair.

In, without doubt the match of the tournament, both players played like it was an actual match and not an exhibition, showcasing high-quality tennis and maintaining their level for the entire match. The crowd was right behind them, as they recieved their money’s worth at the 11th edition of the tournament.

Novak Djokovic had found his groove and rhythm right from the start, and was serving with pinpoint accuracy as well as measured power and efficiency. After saving a break point Kevin Anderson secured a break in the ninth game powering a forehand winner, and then serving out the first set.

Both players went at it each other for 11 games but with high quality tennis. Finally it was Djokovic who broke the shackles, breaking Anderson in the 15th game, following a forehand error while serving to stay in the set at 5-6.

The third set went to the wire as well, with Anderson refusing to back down and not giving Djokovic any free points. Finally Djokovic converted his fifth match point after a stunning rally to secure his fourth Mubadala World Tennis Championship title.

Meanwhile Kevin Anderson, who will be pleased with his performance this week, moves to India, where he will take part at the Pune Open. Meanwhile Rafael Nadal who withdrew from the tournament after his loss against Kevin Anderson, will head to the Brisbane Open next, and will play an exhibition at the Fast4 before he moves on to the Australian Open.
