ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Petchmorakot Petchyindee is one of the most dangerous finishers in the promotion, and he wants to maintain that reputation when he returns to the Circle on Friday, 20 May.

The Thai dynamo, who puts his gold on the line against Jimmy “JV01” Vienot in the headliner of ONE 157: Petchmorakot vs. Vienot, admits the perfect end to his third World Title defense would be to finish his foe before the final bell.

“My solution will be striking as much as I can, with extra punches to add strength and power, switching with some elbows and close-range knees,” Petchmorakot said.

“I think I can hurt him. The only satisfying ending would be a knockout.”

The 28-year-old has wrapped up four of his fights on the global stage before the final bell, the most recent of which coming against Sweden’s Magnus “Crazy Viking” Andersson at ONE: A NEW BREED III in 2020.

More impressive still is that the Petchyindee Academy standout has used a variety of tools to earn his knockouts – be it his knees, elbows, or fists.

For his upcoming match, he plans to entertain the fans once again with his assortment of weapons – in the hopes that he remains the toughest puzzle to solve in the featherweight Muay Thai division.

“I just wanted to change my fighting style by having some punches and elbow strikes added in, so that I can be more recognized by the world when I have more weapons,” Petchmorakot said.

“In each fight of mine, everyone will see my new weapons. No one will be able to beat me. I’ll remain number one like this for a long time. My dream is to hold on to my World Championship for as long as possible.”

Petchmorakot Petchyindee wants recognition as other Muay Thai stars

The Bangkok-based star has every reason to believe he can achieve his goal on 20 May. However, it may prove to be easier said than done.

His rival is a five-time Muay Thai World Champion, who boasts a reputable 51-21-0 (1 NC) record. Moreover, Vienot has competed against elite opposition around the world, including a couple of memorable fights in the world-renowned Lumpinee Stadium.

None of that seems to faze Petchmorakot, though. His only mission is to defeat the French striker with a special knockout while sealing his status as one of the most dominant forces in ONE Super Series.

“I feel very excited to be back, to try to defend my World Championship, so that everyone can see that I am still the champion, and I can show my Muay Thai to everyone,” he said.
