OPPO becomes Official Wimbledon Sponsor

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) announced OPPO as its first official smartphone partner. The Chinese smartphone maker becomes the first-ever Asian partner of Wimbledon tennis championships. OPPO would be the official Wimbledon Sponsor for the next five years.

The Xinhua news agency reported that OPPO signed a five-year deal with AELTC. The China-based company has a strong history of partnerships in sports. OPPO is one of the market-leaders in smartphone makers. The partnership represents the company’s first move to enter into the sport of Tennis. OPPO is the official mobile phone partner to the Spanish football club FC Barcelona. The company has already entered into Cricket after partnering with International Cricket Council (ICC).

“We are thrilled to announce we are the first Asian partner of The Championships, Wimbledon. We are confident this partnership will further strengthen our expansion plans across the European marketplace and in turn our communication globally,” said the Vice President of OPPO, Brian Shen.

Becoming the Wimbledon sponsor would certainly help the company to increase its market share. But it will also help the Wimbledon to grow in the Asian market. The deal represents a mutual opportunity for both the brands to bloom in the most developing markets.

The Commercial and Media director of AELTC, Mick Desmond ecstatic after partnering with OPPO as Wimbledon Sponsor. He commented, “We are delighted to welcome OPPO to the family of Official Suppliers to The Championships, and we very much look forward to seeing the OPPO smartphones bring Wimbledon’s iconic beauty to life for our audiences around the world.”

He added, “OPPO will play a vital role in helping to grow the reach of the Wimbledon brand in Asia, particularly in China, and we are proud to be able to play a similar role in supporting OPPO’s ambitions across the UK and Europe.”

The AELTC also confirmed that the new Wimbledon Sponsor will present an award “OPPO breakthrough award” to young players’ who make a major breakthrough from this year’s tournament.

Last year’s Wimbledon was won by Novak Djokovic and he will be hoping to defend his crown.
