Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of Sevilla midfielder Pablo Sarabia on a five-year deal. The Ligue 1 champions triggered the Spaniard’s reported €18m release clause making him their first signing of this summer.

The 27-year old midfielder was heavily linked with a move to a big European club following his brilliant 2018/19 campaign with Sevilla. Sarabia scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in what was his best season in senior football.

Pablo Sarabia, a product of Real Madrid’s esteemed youth academy, arrived at Sevilla from Getafe in 2016 for a meagre fee of 1m and quickly became a key player for the La Liga outfit. His creativity and versatility in the attack as well as knack for scoring goals is the reason Paris Saint-Germain became interested.

His link-up with Sevilla forward Wissam Ben Yedder, who is also on Paris Saint-Germain’s radar, was a sight to behold, as the duo lead Los Hispalenses to a respectable 6th-placed finish in the Spanish top-flight.

Premier League and Serie A heavyweights Chelsea and AS Roma were also in the race for Pablo Sarabia, but the Londoners’ transfer ban made it impossible for them to sign new players.

A switch to Paris Saint-Germain will be ideal for Sarabia, as he will look to win the club’s third successive Ligue 1 title and also help them make headway in the Champions League. The midfielder is yet to be capped by Spain but made 22 appearances for the U21 side early in his career.

The signing worth over €20m has also indicated the possible departures of some Paris Saint-Germain players. Superstar forward Neymar is already on the cusp of quitting the French champions as he looks to return to Barcelona.
