“Family is not an important thing; it’s everything,” Michael J. Fox once said, and we cannot help but agree with it. Family is the most important aspect of most people’s life. In times of success, they are the ones who appreciate it most, while in failure, they’re the one who gives us support, courage and comfort to fight back. Two-time Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova experienced this wholeheartedly and to her, family means everything.
The 30-year-old professional from the Czech Republic was emotional after cementing her place in the quarter-finals of French Open 2020. Back in 2017, she was involved in a shocking incident that hampered her tennis career. Resisting a break-in into her house, she suffered a grave injury in her left wrist.
Kvitova, who is a left-handed player, was left with injuries to her tendons and nerves. She was sidelined for a considerable period of time due to the recovery period. She made her comeback at the French Open 2017; however, she exited the Major in the second round.

Significantly, the French Open 2020 marks her entry to the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros. Therefore, all the emotions came into play as she thanked her family for supporting her.
“It’s been a long ride definitely. Everything came to my mind when I had my whole family, people who I loved to helped me through the tough, tough time. I don’t know, just everything came back to my mind, I just saw them. I was just playing on the Philippe Chatrier,” she said.
“First time into the Roland-Garros quarter-finals since 2012,” Roland Garros tweeted from its official account.

Kvitova was in good form prior to the imposition of lockdown. She had ventured into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, where she lost to Ashleigh Barty. Following the tournament Down Under, she traveled to Russia for the St. Petersburg Open.
Repeating her performance, she reached the quarterfinals but improved on her result at the Australian Open by reaching the finals of the Qatar Open. However, she had to settle for the runner-up trophy.

Following the resumption of the tennis season, Kvitova’s form was a bit sloppy as she managed a run into the round of 16 in the US Open 2020. Although, she’s showing some good form and flashes of her old self at the French Open.
Defeating Zhang Shuai of China, she has set up a quarterfinal clash with Laura Siegemund of Germany. She’ll be hoping to go all the way to the finals to give herself a chance at another Major title.
