Petra Kvitova in Danger of Missing Wimbledon 2019

Just before her French Open 2019 opening round match was about to start, Petra Kvitova announced her withdrawal from the Paris major. She couldn’t make her appearance at Roland Garros 2019 due to her forearm injury.

And with that injury persisting, the Czech tennis player withdraws from Birmingham Nature Valley Classic tournament. And Petra Kvitova is yet to decide about her Wimbledon 2019 appearance and the two-time Wimbledon champion’s decision will be made in the end moment.

“Unfortunately Birmingham is too soon,” Petra Kvitova mentioned. “I’m working really hard to get back as soon as possible and keeping everything crossed for Wimbledon.” So far, she had a triumphant season and she won titles in Sydney and Stuttgart this year. After her clay title in Germany, Petra Kvitova was just 136 points away from the World Number one ranking.

World Number five, Petra Kvitova has fond memories on the grass courts of Birmingham. She was the Birmingham champion in the year 2017, and back then she defeated Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. It was Kvitova’s first WTA title since her knife attack in Prague. Additionally, Petra Kvitova defended her Birmingham title in 2018 as well.

“I have the best memories of Birmingham,” the two-time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova added. “It was the first place that I won a title after I came back from my injury. I always have the best time there and I hope next year I will see you on the beautiful grass courts.”

Besides, Kvitova’s withdrawal, other WTA women, the Indian Wells champion 2019, Bianca Andreescu, the Roland Garros 2019 finalist, Marketa Vondrousova, Garbine Muguruza, and Madison Keys have withdrawn from Birmingham Nature Valley Classic tournament.

Other WTA women plan to feature at Birmingham Nature Valley Classic tournament to commence their grass-court swing. The five-time Wimbledon, Venus Williams will be making her debut in WTA Birmingham event. She was a first-round bow out in Paris as she was knocked down by Elina Svitolina.

The 38-year-old American, Venus Williams is still in the quest of her 50th WTA title. “I’m really excited to be playing in Birmingham for the first time. I always love playing on the grass in front of British crowds and have heard wonderful things about the tournament,” Venus Williams said.

The former World Number one, Karolina Pliskova takes a wildcard of the Wimbledon warm-up. She was a finalist in the Birmingham event in 2015. “I’m very happy to be coming back to Birmingham because it has a fantastic lineup of players this year and the competition will be really strong. There is no better way to open my grass court season. I have great memories of playing in the final there in 2015 and I’d love to go one better this time,” the Czech mentioned.
