Tony Finau Reveals How He Helped a High School Football Team Clinch State Title: ‘I Made It Clear When I Talked to Them’

Tony Finau is probably one of the most underrated golfers on the PGA Tour. Finau has two PGA Tour wins and his second victory came recently at the 2021 Northern Trust. He ended a trophy-less drought of around five years at Northern Trust. Tony is also one of the most humble golfers on the tour.

Meanwhile, he arrived in Oahu with his family three weeks ago for a vacation. There, his good friend, who is also an assistant football coach at Kahuku High School, met him. He asked Finau to speak with the Red Raiders before they play for the state title.

As Tony Finau spoke with the team, he shared with them the importance of staying hungry and working hard even during the losses or bad patches. Tony is the best guy to explain this as he went winless for around five years on the PGA Tour, and he knows it and doesn’t shy away from accepting it.

Moreover, his speech inspired the team so much as Kahuku thrashed St. Louis with a score of 49-14. This was their first-ever state title in six years. “I made it clear when I talked to them,” said Finau“I said I’m definitely not going to tell you guys how to play football because I would be way out of my lane.”

Furthermore, he said most of these players looked up to him as a Polynesian athlete. They look up to him how he conducts himself on and off the course. Additionally, Tony Finau is a great ideal or inspiration for youngsters to follow.
