‘You Want to Make Me Cry?’ – Abraham Ancer Gets Emotional Remembering His Late Father Following Maiden PGA Tour Win

Abraham Ancer can proudly say that he is a winner on the PGA Tour. The 30-year-old Mexican had to wait quite a few years to stand on the winner’s podium, but it’s better late than never. However, there if there is one letdown from Ancer’s victory at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, it is that his father wasn’t there to see him lift the trophy.
Ancer grew up in a small Mexican city called Reynosa, which is also the place where he first learned to play golf. Ancer’s golf interest sparked when his father introduced him to the game at a very young age.
“There are pictures of me in diapers out there. As soon as I could stand up, I was hitting balls with him,” Ancer told Golf Digest a few months ago. Ancer’s father completely invested his time and money into his son’s career, and it eventually paid off.

Abraham Ancer turned pro in 2013, but his father passed away the subsequent year, without getting to see his son playing on the PGA Tour. Seven years after his father’s demise, Ancer is now a PGA Tour winner, filled with overwhelming emotions.

Abraham Ancer reacts to question about his father during winner’s press-conference
Abraham Ancer was a proud man when he stepped up to deliver the winner’s press conference at TPC Southwind on Sunday. Ancer responded to every one of the media’s questions with excitement and a good sense of humor. However, he turned emotional when a reporter brought up a question about his late father.

“You want to make me cry? Well, I feel like he was out there with me pretty much the whole playoff in the I mean, obviously all of the tournament but I felt really calm for some reason,” Ancer said.

“I felt like he was there with me. I know he busted his bu** his whole life to just get me to tournaments and just have a chance to compete and get better. And he definitely would be extremely proud. I know he is extremely proud and having a big old party up there, man,” Ancer added.

Ancer just couldn’t hold back his emotions when talking about his dad. This victory is the perfect way to pay a tribute to the man who shaped his life altogether. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of Abraham Ancer’s success story on the PGA Tour.
