Koepka urges Naomi to be the ‘authoritative figure’
In his recent interview, Koepka recollects the scene when Osaka’s trainer asks her to sit down and just talk, to which Osaka says, “I don’t really have a voice.” Referring to when she calls herself a vessel, he said, “I felt bad for her… Sometimes you have to be strong enough to have that voice inside yourself and be the authoritative figure. Recalling Greek basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo’s quote, “When you’re thinking about the past, that’s ego,” Koepka had more advice for young Osaka. He said, “When you start thinking of mistakes or screw ups or how you missed that shot or this shot, that’s just your ego being hurt. If you keep staying in the present, you’re fine. The other part of it is that you can’t look too far into the future. There’s a fine little balance in there.”
