Following a confidence-boosting 4th place in Silverstone, the German Grand Prix was the ideal place for Pierre Gasly to continue his good form. Unfortunately, his weekend was off to a bad start as he slid wide on exiting the final corner and hit the barrier.

The impact brought out the red flag and resulted in broken suspension for the French driver. When the session resumed and eventually wrapped up, poor old Pierre Gasly found himself languishing in 15th. Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen was 5th behind the Ferraris and Mercedes duos respectively.

Team boss Christian Horner said, “It’s early days, we need to get the chassis back and have a proper look. It was about a 10G impact, it has done a bit of damage. Thankfully it’s not the race engine but it is frustrating to lose a car at that point of the session.”

“Unfortunately, it’s off the back of a good result at Silverstone. It is not the start of the weekend you want to have. It is only free practice, we will get the car rebuilt tonight and build on that for tomorrow. It’s an annoying accident, but it is what it is. We can’t change it now, we have just got to get on with it.”

Pierre Gasly even headed to the Medical Centre for a precautionary checkup, owing to the crash.
