Pierre Gasly paid a special tribute to his fellow French drivers Anthoine Hubert and Jules Bianchi. Yesterday, Alpha Tauri has formally launched its new avatar. Along with the new look came the new helmet designs for the drivers. Gasly has taken this opportunity to pay respect to his late fellow Frenchmen Anthoine and Bianchi.

Anthoine Hubert a racing prodigy who died aged 22 following a horror crash in the feature F2 race at the Belgian Grand Prix last year. While Jules Bianchi lost his life in 2015, succumbing to injuries caused in an accident during the Japanese Grand Prix in 2014.

2020 Helmet Design of Pierre Gasly

Pierre introduced his 2020 helmet yesterday. And his helmet design has inscriptions of ‘AH’ one one side stripe and ‘JB10’ on the other side. Pierre Gasly shared a good history with both drivers. They use to compete against each other in junior formula championships. Additionally, Pierre and Anthoine had a close friendship.

Anthoine Hubert

Anthoine was a Renault development driver originally from Lyon in France. He won the GP3 Championship in 2018. And subsequently moved to Formula 2. He had already claimed two race wins in the F2 Championship last season before his unfortunate accident.

He was involved in a devastating high-speed crash. Hubert’s car collided with that of Juan Manuel Correa, 20. Hubert and Correa made contact. And Hubert’s car went into the barrier and spun back. While Correa’s car was launched into the air by the impact.

The crash took place on the exit of Eau Rouge at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Officials abandoned the race after the collision.

Jules Bianchi

Bianchi was a Formula 1 driver who raced for the Marussia F1 team. He got into a major accident in the rain struck Japanese Grand Prix in 2014. Bianchi lost control of his car and slipped right towards the run-off area on the outside of the turn seven. And collided with the rear of a tractor crane removing Adrian Sutil’s Sauber. Sutil had spun out of control and crashed in the same area a lap before.

After initial first aid officials took Bianchi to a nearby hospital in Suzuka. Nini months after his crash Bianchi died on 17 July 2015, aged 25. His death made him the first Formula One driver to be killed by injuries sustained during a Grand Prix since Ayrton Senna in 1994.

Bianchi was a promising driver. And was the top contender to replace Fernando Alonso at Ferrari.
