Legendary Italian midfielder, Andrea Pirlo is in talks with the Major League Soccer(MLS) team New York City FC. Although the deal hasn’t been made or confirmed yet, it remains a strong possibility as the Juventus midfielder has only one year remaining in his contract.

Pirlo was spotted recently in the city of New York, at a Yankees game at the weekend, further fuelling the rumours. If all goes well for Pirlo and the team,  we could witness Pirlo playing alongside Frank Lampard and David Villa for the club when they play Toronto FC on July 12th.

After winning 6 Serie A titles with AC Milan and Juventus, 2 UEFA Champions League titles with Milan and a World Cup for the Italian national side, Pirlo seeks a place out of the continent, with the United States being the most probable choice.

David Villa, who joined New York City FC last season said that Pirlo would be welcome to the club. “He is a legend. A very important player for football, and also any footballer,” Villa said. “I congratulate him on his successful career.” When asked about the chances to play for the New York based team, he said “I don’t know. If he comes, then we will welcome him but that doesn’t depend on us.” according to ESPN FC .

MLS has become a retirement home for many English footballers, with many players choosing to play in the US in their final years of the game, including Lampard and Gerrard. The trend has been growing outside the English boundaries too, as FIFA seeks to improve their reach in the continent.

The 36 year old Pirlo believes there are too many rumours of him leaving the club and his intention is just to keep playing football, at least until Euro 2016, where he wants to represent Italy. The possibilty of the midfield maestro to be transferred is around a 6.5/10, mainly because of his high wage demands which would prove too much for the newer and less revenue earning MLS clubs.
