I Always Have the Worst Schedule – Halep

World number one, Simona Halep has criticised the Rogers Cup tournament organisers. As it turned out, her semifinal match was scheduled 17 hours after her quarter-final match.

The Romanian player downed sixth seed Caroline Garcia 7-5 6-1 to reach the last four in Montreal. She will go up against Ashleigh Barty in a semi-final showdown. However, the world number one was frustrated that the tournament organisers scheduled her match less than a day after her match with Garcia had finished.

The top seed also had to play two matches in one day. Barty will also have a six hour head start on Halep since her match was earlier. This ticked off Halep to no end, “It’s definitely not good. Because if you look at the schedule, I think I’m the only one person and player who has the worst schedule during the week,” Halep stated.

“I think this happens almost every tournament. I saw that tomorrow (Saturday) I play at 1:00. So I think the WTA is a little bit upset with me because they always try to put me down, I can say, in the schedule. And I’m very upset about this.”

The Romanian’s frustrations are justified especially since the men’s sessions have been split into halves. This is so that the bottom half play in the day session and the top half play at night. However the same principle has not been applied for the women. As a result Halep is the one suffering the consequences as of this.

Inspite of this, the Romanian will have to compete against Ashleigh Barty in the semi-finals at 1:00 local time. Meanwhile in the other semi-final, Sloane Stephens and defending champion Elina Svitolina will play their match at 6pm local time.

Hopefully for Halep’s sake, her game isn’t too badly affected by the less amount of playing time.
