The most awaited time of the month for PlayStation patrons is finally here. PlayStation has announced the upcoming free games for Playstation+ subscribers for January 2021, and the list looks pretty exciting.

The free games for the month of January are- Maneater, Greedfall, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. These titles will be available from January 5. Maneater, however, is only available for PlayStation 5 users, but both Greedfall and Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be playable on both PS4 and PS5.

It seems like Sony has established a pattern for its complimentary games for each month. Unlike previous months, the last couple of months have boasted three titles instead of two. Out of these three titles, one is a PlayStation 5 exclusive (although all three titles are playable on PS5), while the other two are available for those who haven’t upgraded to the new-gen console yet.

Naturally, these games are available for only a month and for players who have access to the PS+ subscription. The subscription also enables the players to use online features of titles, including the multiplayer mode.

Maneater

It is a power-packed RPG developed by Tripwire Interactive and came out in May this year. The title initially released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows but also made its way to the new-gen consoles on November 5. Hence, Sony is offering it is a free title with the PS+ subscription.

Moreover, it is also coming to Nintendo Switch in the first half of 2021. The devs made this decision to expand the player base for the RPG.
The premise of the title is pretty simple. The players assume the role of a female bull shark who must evolve and survive to take revenge from the fisherman who killed her mother.

The premise is similar to the theme of an action movie. A twist to Finding Nemo, perhaps?

Greedfall

Before we begin, it is important to note that the title isn’t available for every region. It will be replaced in the lineup with Assetto Corsa in the Middle-East and Mistoverin Japan and South Korea.

This is another action RPG for next month’s lineup. Greedfall has a 17th-century setting as players explore uncharted territory in lands seeping with magic.

The players along with other NPCs hunt for treasure in lands that are occupied by locals who are trying to fight against invading settlers. Supernatural beings assist the local settlers in this uphill task. This game is an amalgamation of combat, diplomacy, and stealth.

The title came out for Xbox One, PS4, and Windows on September 19 this year, but will also roll out for the new-gen consoles on an unspecified date in the future. The devs confirmed in November that the RPG sold over a million copies worldwide.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The action-adventure title came out in 2018 and was published by Square Enix. It resumes the narrative from its 2015 predecessor- Rise of the Tomb Raider. Moreover, it is the twelfth entry in the Tomb Raider series.

The narrative follows Lara Croft as she ventures through the tropical regions of South America to save the world from a Maya apocalypse. In addition, the character in the game is outnumbered and outgunned in most scenarios, implying that the surroundings in the game are pretty unforgiving.

The game revived positive reviews for its puzzles and engrossing storyline. However, it was also challenged for its gameplay that apparently lacked innovation.

The title started off to slow sales, but eventually gathered momentum and sold over 4 million copies by the end of 2018.
