Pokemon Unite Is The Hottest New Addition To The MOBA Space

The Pokemon Company announced that it will be entering the MOBA space alongside the established games Dota and League of Legends with ‘Pokémon Unite.’

Developed in collaboration with Chinese giants Tencent who also own Riot’s League of Legends, this will be a 5v5 Pokémon battle, much like Dota and LOL. The game will be available across mobile devices and Nintendo Switch. The official release date is yet to be confirmed.

The trailer showed an island map with different pathways, much like Dota and LOL, featuring Charizard, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu, etc. battling it out 5v5.

“In this game, players face off against each other in 5-on-5 team battles. During battles, players will cooperate with teammates to catch wild Pokémon, level up and evolve their own Pokémon, and defeat opponents’ Pokémon while trying to earn more points than the opposing team within the allotted time.”

The Pokémon Company has made some other significant announcements this month which include Pokémon Smile, an app that will offer a fun tooth brushing experience to children. They also announced the new Pokémon Snap, a much-awaited follow-up to the original Pokémon Snap launched for N64 in 1999. This will allow you to capture Pokémon using the Photodex while you venture out in search of new Pokémon

But, it doesn’t end there. The Pokémon Company also announced the launch of its Pokémon Café Mix puzzle game, where you tactically solve puzzles, gather new recipes and work to expand your café.

Pokémon’s entry in the MOBA space could also mean a definite addition to the competitive MOBA category in the near future. We could be looking at yet another massive addition to esports and with a huge fanbase all over the world, this is a win-win for the Pokémon Company.
