Damian Lillard Nominates a Player to Replace Him in the NBA All-Stars

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard suffered a groin strain during the game against Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

With just over three minutes left into the game, Lillard was going for a drive to the basket

He attempted a shot around Memphis center Jonas Valanciunas and didn’t land correctly. He immediately headed to the locker room and did not return for the game.

After the end of the game, Trail Blazers coach Terry Scotts confirmed a right groin strain to Lillard and said that he will undergo an MRI on Thursday. Lillard came out to mention that he will miss the NBA All-Star game. This will be the third consecutive season for which Lillard will not be featuring in the All-Stars.

 

Lillard was supposed to play in team LeBron James among the Western Conference All-Stars on Sunday. Lillard was among the reserves in the team behind starters LeBron James, Anthony Davis,  Kawhi Leonard, Luka Doncic and James Harden.

He was also a part of the three-point contest on Saturday which he will miss.

Team LeBron will now have to look for a replacement for Lillard. A few players that were left disappointed on being left out initially will have an opportunity to get in. Lillard had his thoughts on a player that can possibly replace him. He endorsed Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker to replace him.

Lillard has been in scorching form recently. He has always led the Trail Blazers almost single-handedly. Fortunately for the Trail Blazers, they don’t have a game until February 21 owing to the All-Star weekend. They will be hoping for Lillard to get to full fitness before they return to action.
