The Spanish top seed Rafael Nadal could become the first man to win an event both on clay and grass. He will face Serbian Viktor Troicki in Sunday’s final of the Stuttgart Open. Nadal went past the Frenchman Monfils in 79 minutes and looked on course to claim his third title here. The previous two coming in 2005 and 2007, when the event was played on clay.

In the other semi Troicki defeated the US Open winner Marin Cilic in a closely fought contest that was dominated by the big serves and aces. The match lasted two hours and twenty one minutes and had 30 aces in total.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner would enter the final as the favorite and would love to get the crown on grass before he begins his quest for a third Wimbledon title later this month.
