Rafael Nadal Confident of Roger Federer Making a Convincing Comeback at Australian Open 2021

Roger Federer’s return to tennis is a long-awaited event. The Swiss Master has been out of the ATP tour since last playing in the 2020 Australian Open. Recovering from his knee surgeries, Federer is expected to return at the 2021 Australian Open. Federer’s arch-rival and close friend Rafael Nadal is optimistic about Federer’s comeback.

Speaking to La Resistencia, Nadal indicated that a strong comeback from Federer is to be expected.

“I see that he is already training and I think he will come back quite well. How far can it go? Well, you can’t know and I don’t think anyone can. I don’t know how I am [going to do], let alone [Federer].”

Further, Nadal revealed the transition in his relationship with Federer. Being the senior players on tour, Nadal and Federer are taking charge of finding solutions to the problems issued by the pandemic and are in constant conversation with each other.

“These days we often hear from each other, obviously we discuss the tennis players’ advice and in general about important situations. The situation today is very difficult, we have to find a solution given the current times and I have to say that lately we have been talking regularly.”

Can Roger Federer win another Grand Slam?

Now as Federer turns 40 next year, his chance of winning another Grand Slam is diminishing. But former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli believes that Federer could win a few more Grand Slams after he comes back from his injury next year.

Federer last came close to winning a Slam in Wimbledon 2019 against Novak Djokovic. The marathon final saw Federer squander two championship points which would have capped of a brilliant Wimbledon run. Wimbledon 2019 witnessed the renewal of the ‘Fedal’ rivalry on the lush green grass of Wimbledon. Federer faced Nadal in the semifinal of Wimbledon 2019 which the Swiss Master sealed handsomely in four sets. A Fedal clash in Wimbledon was long overdue. Before 2019, Federer and Nadal had played the 2008 Wimbledon Final which is regarded as one of the greatest tennis matches in history.
